Is it normal for parents to tell their adult kids that they won't pay attention to them now?
My dad just told me that because I'm in my twenties, my family isn't going to care about my birthday or notice my achievements because they're all so busy and have no time to care.
This has been confusing the hell out of me because my dad has never forgotten my birthday once in my entire life. This year though, when I dropped out of the uni he thought was acceptable in a degree he deemed pride-worthy and profitable, he completely went silent with me. I've always felt like my dad was a wolf in sheep's clothing. He'd put on different faces for different people according to what he'd gain from it. We always felt unsafe around him emotionally at home and I've recently started to realize that he constantly asks me how I'm feeling and coping and about my trauma not because he genuinely cares, but to use as information against me later on.
Once, I told him about my SA in high school and he was on his phone the whole time. I thought that was so rude and then he said he's "writing notes for future reference" Huh???
Now he tells me so few people have my interests in mind in this world and I can only trust him and my mom (who's also a snake in the grass) and that people will forget my birthday. Funny he says that because this is the first year my entire family collectively forgot my birthday, a month after I changed degrees and universities.
But everyone else's birthday has been blasted on the family group chat endlessly, a group chat I'm not even on and had to find out exists by my mom asking about something that was said on it without my knowledge...
