Connections:

• Lazy, incompetent, funny cartoon dads from hit cartoons that have a mixture of witty writing, slapstick comedy, and fourth-wall breaking/meta humor.
• They are the both very stupid, their stupidity often being a plot point in episodes of their show. This stupidity often even gets them in trouble with the law.
• They have a blue-haired wife who loves them very much despite their sometimes rocky relationship and how lazy they are.
• They have a troublemaking son who they treat more as a friend than a dad when it comes to discipline.
• They both have a smart daughter who’s joked as the most competent, normal, and college-bound of the entire family.
• Both have a bit of a dysfunctional relationship with their family, but love them nonetheless, as is evident in an emotional episode told mostly through flashbacks that is known among the fandom as a tearjerker (The Choices/And Maggie Makes Three). This episode also provided one of the many great heartwarming moments in their mostly comedic show.
• Both got with their wife despite disapproval from said wife’s family.
• Both proposed to their wife with an onion ring.
• Both love food, TV, and lounging on the couch *a lot*.
• Both are constantly at odds with their neighbor (though in Homer’s case it is a very one-sided rivalry).
• Both tend to give bad advice to their kids, but still mean well.
• Both have bumbled their way to a position of leadership (CEO of Chanax/Head of the Stonecutters).
• Both have inner monologues frequently, often played for laughs.
• Both have surprising amounts of knowledge on a specific subject.
• Both have a rough relationship with a parent that left when they were young, leaving them in the care of their well-meaning but not great other parent. These missing parents would later come back, making amends with their child.

Bonus Contrast:

• Richard is unemployed while Homer is the breadwinner despite his laziness
