Would you stay over?

General Questions

Hi everyone, I’m checking in on a dog over the holidays that was just meant to be regular walks several times a day. Unfortunately he’s experiencing separation anxiety to the point where one of the pet parents will be cutting the vacation short to come home and be with him. They asked if I could stay the night tonight to keep him company and make sure he’s okay which I agreed to.

They told me where I could find blankets and pillows and asked if I could post up on the couch to stay near him. I was happy to do so and ran home for an overnight bag. Came back, settled in…. And then the smoke alarm started the “low battery” chirp.

I grabbed a chair, got the smoke detector battery out, sat back down, and…. CHIRP. The smoke detector is hard wired but there isn’t an obvious circuit for them in the panel. It chirps once every 60 seconds. I’m a light sleeper and there’s no way I’ll be able to sleep with this chirping. I reached out to the owners but assume they are asleep by now.

Would you stay and try to stick it out, or would you head home? Given this was not the original plan for my care I’m sure they would be understanding, but wanted to poll the community before I decide one way or the other.

Thanks!
