Cannot connect DDJ-Flx4

This is my first venture into this. I have no idea what I’m doing and I’ve watched a video how to set up rekordbox and simply plug the controller into the laptop and it should work. But everything I try it won’t let me control anything. There is power going to it but it won’t let me do anything further. I downloaded serato to see if that would work and it acknowledged that the flx4 is there but no further luck than that. I then tried it on my phone which did work but I don’t want it on my phone. I’d like to figure out what’s going wrong on my laptop: it’s a 2020 MacBook Pro.

Any advice? Much appreciated
