Oslo Hat Question

I'm a pretty newbie knitter - just getting back into it after many years off. I'm working on the Oslo Hat from Petite Knit right know, and I've gotten to the point where you turn the work and begin working from the WS. However, I actually find it really slow and more difficult to knit this way, not sure why.

I do really like how the hat is coming along and may make more in the future. In the future, do you think it's possible to just purl several centimeters after joining the brim then continue knitting the rest of the way without turning, or is the turn necessary to the construction of the hat?
