For the past year or two, almost all my dreams take place in the same “dream city”
For the past year or so, almost all my dreams take place in the same city. It seems to be its own city, it’s not based on anywhere in particular. I could spend my dream just in a hour or a room, but with a certain awareness that that house or room is still in this dream city.
It had landmarks like a light rail transit, an alleyway that I use as a shortcut, and a shopping centre, all which recur in many of my dreams. I once had a dream I was flying a jet, and I was flying a jet around the dream city. From the sky it looked like a really small version of somewhere like Miami, it looked almost like an island or peninsula and had palmy beaches and some tall modern skyscrapers in the centre. The part I saw gave the impression it was a fairly small city.
The weirdest part is though, in almost all my dreams since they started taking place in this city, if I’m indoors like in a house, the house is always dilapidated and water damaged, with plant life growing in it as if it’s been abandoned for years. I might start a dream in a normal looking living room or bedroom, then I walk around the building and find hidden passages and doors that lead to other parts of the building. The more I explore these buildings, the move damaged and waterlogged and abandoned the building becomes, but not in a creepy threatening way, in a cool exploration kind of way.
This morning I had a dream I was living in this big sort of apartment building. Me and my housemates had to be moved to a different unit in the building, but in every building I kept finding water damage on the walls, moldy windowsills and sidings, green mold spreading to the beds pushed against the wall. I kept bringing it up and staff kept taking us to different units but they all had the same leaking water damage. This was the first time I remember verbally acknowledging the state all the indoor places that I’m in.
I have these dreams a lot. Starting in a normal building, exploring, finding a hidden passage to an older, abandoned part of the building. The windows are always gone, plant life beginning to grow inside, old abandoned looking furniture, it’s always bright and calm, it never feels threatening, and it always takes place in the same dream city. Sometimes I move around the city or the dream starts in different parts, like at the light rail station and the shopping mall. I had a dream once of a skiing even at the shopping mall, and another one where I attended a concert there.
Does anyone else experience anything like this? Have any idea if it means anything?
