Sun conure for new parrot parent?

I’ve been wanting a parrot for a while and reading lots about them. I met a very sweet young Sun Conure at our local bird store today. He didn’t want to get off my hand to go back in his cage. I like what I’ve read about the cheeky conure antics and understand they’re loud. But, I haven’t met very many.

But, as you have all taught, me this is not an impulse decision and I have not set up our home or a bird cage/room yet.

So, we own our home that is unattached from others. We have a large dog who doesn’t have a high prey drive. We also have two animal savvy kids 7 and 9. The bird would be out of his cage with us at least 3 hrs a day most days more. I’ve identified a reputable avian vet near us, and we have the finances to support the needs of the bird. I’m also at an age where if I’m gonna spend 20-30 yrs w a pet, now’s the time to do it or not.

Is this a bad idea???
