I Guess it is a good idea?

So I live 2 hours away from my hometown and visit my parents on weekends , but ever since I moved to college my mom keep complaining about she gets bored without me here, so I recommended they adopt a cat since it wouldn't even require as much attention as a dog and still play around in the house. Honestly they were in on the idea initially but not they are hesitating a lil, any advice on how I get them completely on board?
