Seeking Insights on People's PCB Workflow Challenges - personal challenges and request for feedback

I’m a practicing electrical engineer (degree in EE, RF & analog circuit design) and lately I've been reflecting on the challenges of PCB design, like time spent doing KiCad library management or verifying boards before sending them to manufacturing. I’m thinking about software I could create to streamline these workflows—maybe some kind of automated checking or other PCB design feature.

For example, some of the PCB design struggles I encounter in Kicad are:

  • Keeping libraries updated and consistent across versions/teams
  • Double-checking “obvious” pinout errors that slip past design rule checks
  • Manually generating BOM/CPL files without messing up entire builds

I was hoping to get help brainstorming - if you’ve been doing PCB design for a while (especially in industry), I’d love to hear your pain points and any improvised fixes you’ve come up with.

Feel free to reply here or DM me if you’re more comfortable. If anyone’s open to a quick chat outside Reddit (even just by email), I’m at vvnh2025@gmail.com. I’m not selling anything, just brainstorming possible tools to help all of us.

Thanks and good luck with your next board spin!
