experiences with temporary restraining orders? I left but I have nowhere to go and I really want to go back to my apartment

my ex and i lived together for 14 years. the past few years we were more like roommates than anything but he was still verbally abusive sometimes. I told him I was done a few weeks ago and that I wanted to move out. He's been punishing me ever since. he threatens to "leak" old videos and pictures of mine (I do have screenshots of him saying this) and he also threatened to come to my job (which he ended up doing, and threatened one of my coworkers). I have pictures of physical abuse he had done to me but it's from 4-5 years ago. I couldn't take him harassing me anymore so yesterday I left to my parents house with our 1 daughter. (no other kids). my parents house is really disgusting and dirty, full of cockroaches, no working tub/shower.. so I really don't want to be there. I would really like to stay in my apartment (my name is also on the lease) but my ex refuses to leave.

I am always told a temporary restraining order is an option but it gives me MAJOR anxiety. What if my landlord doesn't change the locks right away? What will my ex do once he gets home and realizes the locks are changed?? He's at work all day today. What if the court decides to take the TRO away? Then he will move back in and i'll be back to square one. I don't know what to do. I've been looking for a new apartment for 2 weeks now and I can't find anything I can afford. I called a DV shelter and they said it wasn't physical domestic violence i'm experiencing so they can't help me.
