How do I break into asset management?

Hello, I am a junior who very lately transitioned from another path to finance this past December. As a result, I was not able to recruit for 2025 summer which I know is a crucial time for my class.

I am just very lost on how to proceed as I want to break into asset management, but most of those around me are trying to hedge funds or investment banking and always tell me that they can not give me a clear answer.

Could someone please tell me what I should do for the remainder of my college career to make my chances of getting into a good asset management firm (ex. Blackrock, Fidelity, etc.)? Also, outside of this, could someone outline the basic steps that people take to get into asset management?

Just for reference, I know my stats right now are working against my favor in terms of getting a position. I have one finance-related activity (as mentioned above only switched to finance now) and a 3.1 GPA. The one maybe thing that I have in my favor is that I am attending a good target school, but I do not know how to leverage this to my advantage at the current moment (but will be working on it).

(and yes i did post this on financial guidance or some other subreddit as well)
