Strength matters
Im in my mid 30's. Trained kickboxing and Yoshukai for 7 years a long time ago. Barely have any grappling experience. Started powerlifting in my 20's. Bench 380, squat 585. I joined one of our local MMA gyms a couple years ago looking to get back into sparring/get my cardio up. The only submission I know besides punching or kicking someone in the head is the rear naked. I consistently pin our blues, purples, browns and 1 of the 3 black belts in our gym. There's a brown and purple belt that have gotten my ass before but it's usually when I'm gassed. Majority of the time they can't do shit. If it were a real fight I would absolutely beat the piss out of them. I'd like to make it crystal clear that I'm not bragging in this post. I'm making a logical statement based on experience. I've had my ass kicked in sparring and full contact tournaments more than a few times. I respect anyone and everyone who takes time out of their life to train. I'm simply pointing out that technique does not always trump strength. Get on that bench press and hit your squats. You'll thank me for it
