How did you choose to take your partner's last name or not?

My fiance (M34) and I (NB26) have been engaged for over a year and can't wait to get married. In the meantime we've been talking about the whole name thing. We're both really determined to make our wedding/marriage our own thing and not feel the pressure to cave in on certain societal expectations of marriage. However, I pretty quickly realized keeping my last name is not important to me lol.

I don't have a particular fondness or strong sense of identity with my last name, and his last name is just very pretty imo. I figured taking his name would also make future potential legal situations less complicated to navigate, plus if we have kids we wouldn't have to decide who gets who's name.

What was your reasoning for keeping your last name or taking your partner's name? I'm curious to see what the thought process is like for other people since mine was fairly simple I guess!
