How do you make your curls stay curly (and not get wired shaped) overnight?

If i don’t put hairspray or curl defining mousse in it after i defuse, the curls aren’t as curly the next morning (more frizzy) but if i do put hairspray or curl defining mousse in, I wake up with some really messy and wired shaped curls, because i’ve laid on my own hair
