Transition to solids after a year - how/when?

Feeding

I'm going to bring this up at her next doctor appointment, but I'm just curious to hear from others! I know milk/formula should be the primary food source until 1 so we always prioritize her bottles before offering solids. LO is 8 months.

I've read a lot of comments from people saying the milk intake doesn't decrease with the introduction of solids and I can't figure out how that's possible once they're actually eating multiple meals.

Do you wait until 1 year before prioritizing solids and decreasing milk? Or do you slowly transition them away from milk/formula before 1 year? (ie At the 1 year mark, they're basically transitioned to solids).

Is this another situation that you follow the baby's lead as they become more interested in real food?

I'm probably overthinking it, but it just seems everything uses "before/after 1 year" as if they magically wake up on their first birthday, throw the bottle away, and eat a stack of pancakes.
