Pain after Fitting Expander…

My daughter (almost 13 y.o.) keeps complaining of pain in her two front canines since she got her palatal (jackscrew/hyrax) expander fitted yesterday. There's the expected discomfort in her palate area, drooling and difficulty swallowing food which we were prepared for but my major concern is her complaint about how painful her front canines are after just 1 turn (even touching them and the area around them makes her wince). I know it's only Day 2 but is this normal?
