Help me understand please

So last night I hop on DayZ for the first time in a few days and decided to server hop from Chernarus to Livonia. I spawned in as a freshie and I'm just confused. I always watch the log out timer until it hits zero because I know somebody could just come in and shoot me before I leave the server, but I'm 100% sure that didn't happen. Have y'all ever had something similar happen?
