Avowed is as immersive as a foot of water is deadly

A person can drown in a foot of water, and Avowed can be an immersive game. Sadly, unless you're in danger of the former, you're unlikely to be enthralled by the latter...

Here's where it all came into focus for me... running around the open world and I encounter my 100th upgrade materials chest, next to my 100th skeletal corpse clutching a 200 word note next to it. The very idea of reading it at this stage seems beyond pointless. Desperate for any kind of interactivity, I fire at a nearby pig creature, I wonder what they drop? They don't drop anything. You can't damage them, the game doesn't even acknowledge the action.

Somehow, after all these years in development, Avowed plays like it was made on a shoestring budget, and released out the back of a speeding truck. Dumping endless lore and writing onto such an utterly plastic and artificial world is like pissing into sand. Nothing is going to grow there.

Obsidian have done great work in the past, but (much like New Vegas) they are clearly better at handling the writing/scenarios and leaving the build work to another studio.

I simply can NOT believe this game wasn't rebooted and thrown together last minute.
