How do I correct my deaf cat’s behavior?
My husband and I recently adopted a cat and everything has been going much better than I expected. He’s an incredibly sweet and cuddly cat and we’ve had no issues with him except for one thing… we’re pretty sure he’s deaf (we’re getting a vet appointment to confirm) and he goes absolutely nuts for food in the morning. I’m talking he’s destroyed my sheets from clawing at the end of the bed, routinely knocks over my floor lamp, and generally wreaks havoc every morning starting at 5AM. We’ve tried ignoring the behavior, using a spray bottle, etc. We have a loft type bedroom and there’s no door to shut him out, so we’re at a bit of a loss. I know this is a pretty normal thing for cats to do as any cat I’ve had has been a menace when they want to be fed but waking up to my lamp crashing down every morning is getting old. Any tips, advice, solutions?
