Episode 9: What has happened to young men! - Summary and Discussion
Men and boys are failing, being failed, and failing us. Something needs to change.
What is it like to grow from boy to man with constant exposure to social media and all that this brings? In my experience, near impossible. There are many challenges faced by boys and men, like loneliness and socio-economic upheaval, that are ignored by mainstream opinion. Instead, they tell us about the risks posed by toxic masculinity and fragile masculinity. The void left on men's issues is being filled by the alt-right, and the far-right, with the concerns of men being manipulated by the online manosphere. I know the allure of online misogyny and the vulnerability of boys and young men to it, because it easily ensnared me too. I spent so many hours watching Joe Rogan, Crowder, Shapiro, Peterson and the rest. It changed me, I became their Frankenstein monster. I’m scared that young men are now veering towards far-right ideologues and I don’t want to think about what the future might hold.
