My grandmother called the cops because she doesn't understand that my grandfather died over 30 years ago.
This happened at around 3:15pm. I didn't know until a cop opened my bedroom door, asking me if he could look around. She doesn't understand that my grandfather died 35 years ago. If we try to explain it to her then she gets mad at us for "lying" or starts crying. We gave up on telling her he died and just go along with her delusions that he's at a relative's house. She waits and waits and waits for him to come home and gets extremely upset when he doesn't. She makes up all of these horrible scenarios constantly, and there's no telling her something isn't/didn't happen(ing). I didn't know that I was home alone with her, my uncle didn't tell me he was leaving and my mom was out running errands, so I thought it was fine to watch a show. Then I hear her yelling for my mom, but I assumed my uncle was here and would handle it.
Next thing I know, I'm hearing an unfamiliar man's voice asking me if I live here while he's opening my door. I have a panic disorder, very fun, so my legs turn to gelatin. He starts explaining to me that they got a call that my grandfather had been shot and they needed to look around for him. I try to explain the actual situation, but she's standing RIGHT next to this guy and I can't say she has dementia in front of her lest all hell break loose. He got it and was very understanding but still had to do a sweep of the house while I'm trying to corral her back to her room so I can actually talk to this guy.
I was apologizing profusely, I had to give him my name and my phone number, and now I'm just terrified that I'm going to get a call or something soon that I'm getting charged for misuse of 911 because my wonderfully useless panic brain kept saying, "I'm so sorry, I didn't think that phone worked." which makes it sound like I gave it to her WHEN I DIDN'T! And the phone bill is in my name.
I'm genuinely scared to go to sleep. I almost took a nap instead of watching a show because I woke up at 4am. I don't know how I would've handled waking up to a random man standing over me. I went to bed when my mom got back, but I did not rest well in any facet. I woke up to myself holding my breath and had to force myself to breathe. I don't know what to do. My mom unplugged the phone(It's a landline.) but the only thing that calms her down sometimes is calling my other uncle or my aunt. I don't know if I want to cry or throw myself into the abyss.
