Concern for child / student
8year was told by a friend that another student (bully) wanted my child dead , to disappear , and wished she could shoot her in the head. Friend that accused bully then said that she made it up , crying by also prompted by parent to open up about it. Friend has been bullied by the girls she accused of saying this also but has also has been friends with her and long time friends with my child. Friend has been told by the bully to tell my child that she doesn’t want to be friends with her anymore (just an example of what’s going down, but miniscule to the supposed threat)
Bully has been bullying my child for the past year saying nasty things and tripping her putting hands on her poking her making faces at her talking about her appearance and hair (my daughter is mixed Latina black, mostly white school)
I did file police report after the supposed threat (it was tough to but I did ) but police stated they talked to parents and no real threat (since friend said she made it up) so no police report.
My concern is, bully’s mom is in PTO board and I don’t know how much influence she has except for another parent saying that one wouldn’t want to get on her bad side because she knows people.
As well as me and mom have raised concerned for months to teacher, I actually wanted them to set up a meeting with me with the intention of changing my child from classroom to prevent more bullying but now we are here. We have been handling it so far with telling my daughter to either ignore the bully, tell the teacher, or stand up for her self and say “stop it” or “I need space”. We both never imagined it’d get to this point but I have observed what it was potentially leading up to (not violent threat) but impact on my daughter emotionally and intended to have a meeting to separate the kids. Now we are here.
I’m left feeling worried . What adults am I truly leaving my child with. Also concerned about whether they didn’t handle the bullying because they didn’t think it was a big deal or because of potential influence or racism/discrimination.
Principal did tell me that he knew about a student hitting my child but this incident wasn’t reported to us by staff but by my child.
I asked if my child is doing anything inappropriate and everyone has stated no. So I’m left wondering why does my child have to pay for the few kids that are not acting right. My child has good friends but she had to stand up to bullies and tell them to stop but they continue.
Anyway, should I get a lawyer?
