Mom’s excuse
My mom’s excuse for everything is her parents, her childhood bullies, that she was a fat child, that her mom gave her a perm, her siblings were mean to her, the she was tricked by my dad and his family into thinking they had money. She’s a broken record about her perceived abuse and needs all attention on her for being so good despite all this. She’s 60, and I haven’t heard her tell a new story about her life since I was a teenager because she’s always on repeat. If I say anything about what’s happening in my life, she flips it around to a story she’s told a million times about something in her mind is similar to whatever I just said. Every sentence starts with I or my. I see my mom maybe once or twice a year and every time it is exhausting. She makes everything awkward and difficult and she’s incredibly self righteous about it all. She had a mental breakdown and now she is the best she’s ever been, her therapist’s perfect student. She’s obsessed with TikTok and she’s going to be an influencer now that she’s been laid off from her real job. She uses terms like gaslighting while she is the biggest real life offender I’ve ever met.
I’m still struggling to accept that this is my mother. My own therapy is starting to chip away at the internalized garbage from my own childhood with her. It’s hard for me to not be angry about her behavior.
