In the market after 20 years
I have a 20yr old Rav 4 that needs some work and is burning oil. Instead of fixing it I am debating about putting that money towards a new or certified pre-owned. I am leaning towards a similar profile to the Rav. So another RAV4, Honda HRV or CrV. Ages ago I was told to stay away from buying a Hyundai and Kia, that they were fine for leasing. Is this still true? I want to keep the car as long as possible so looking for a car that would make it another 15-20 years. I have some money to put down. My husband thinks leasing is good as I would be able to stay under the miles.
It looks like lease prices are almost as high as financing. He has a 2016 truck that he rolled over from his lease and we have two payments left. To me leasing is not a good idea. At the same time I could save some of the down payment money to finance it after the lease. That’s assuming there was no emergency etc and the money stayed untouched.
Just from a quick search the certified pre owned are almost as expensive as new. Maybe 1-2,000 less. Honda, especially the CRV is a few thousand more than the Rav or Corolla crossover. I called my insurance to get an estimate and Honda was also a bit more to insure. Any thoughts and how hard is it to get a decent deal? Also if a leased vehicle is more expensive to insure than a financed one.
