Is there a way I (29F) can be supportive of my boyfriend (32M) and still get my emotional needs met?
My boyfriend of 8 months is going through a stressful time with work. He currently is waiting to find out if he will have to move for his job or if he is going to be let go. As you can imagine he’s going through a lot and I have been doing my best to be supportive. Listening to him and trying to take things off his plate when I can. We both agreed we can’t make a plan for our relationship until we know what is going to happen to his job.
However, I feel like I’m going to have a breakdown waiting to find out what is going to happen.
I haven’t told him how stressed I am because I don’t want to add to his stress. But he’s adding to my stress because he’s being less communicative than normal or forgetting to tell me things. I’ve seen this once before briefly when he had some stress in the fall so I already know it’s a pattern.
I really want to be honest with him that I’m struggling and would like to hear from him more. So the question is can I express my needs in a relationship without adding to his stress? Or do I hold it in until we get a definite answer about his job?
