When did your kid start falling asleep on their own?

Would love a real world survey of this from other dads. My son is 14 months and still goes to sleep on the bottle at night (we’re down to just AM and bedtime bottles). For nap time at home he still exclusively sleeps on us after we rock him down.

He’s a pretty good sleeper overall, but right around the time we are trying to get his sleep routine down he was hospitalized and it all got shot to hell. We are trying to get a handle on things now that he is healthy.

The daycare says he just lies down and goes to sleep on a mat for nap time there, but we aren’t able to replicate that at home. Are we dropping the ball here? Am I setting myself up to be rocking a 6yr old to sleep every night?
