The Poltergeist and Cultural Values:
A Comparative Interpretation of a Brazilian and an American Case

A comparative study of a NHI case in Brazil and the United States reveals how cultural values can significantly influence the interpretation of paranormal phenomena, with the Brazilian case often being explained through the lens of sorcery, religious beliefs, while the American case tends to be interpreted through a more individualistic, psychological framework, often linking it to "recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis."

Key Points:
Cultural Context:
The way people perceive and explain paranormal activity is deeply rooted in their cultural background, including beliefs about spirits, magic, and the nature of reality.

Brazilian Interpretation:
In Brazil, where spiritualism and folk beliefs about witchcraft are prevalent, a poltergeist case might be attributed to a malevolent entity, a "bruxa" (witch), or a spirit seeking revenge, emphasizing the interpersonal dynamics and the power of personal actions.

American Interpretation:
Conversely, in the United States, with a stronger emphasis on individualism, a poltergeist might be explained as a psychological phenomenon related to stress, repressed emotions, or a troubled individual subconsciously causing the paranormal activity.
