Based on SCTW, what would you like to see for TC4
Obviously, this conversation is very early because the album JUST came out… but Tate moves very fast and I think this album gave a new perspective of her musicality. I think SCTW really set a foundation for her sound going forward, but she is still under critique for some things that I think are valid. I love the album but I do believe she has the potential to do even more, specifically to up the diversity in sound and utilize her talents as a whole. This is what I’d like to see from her next album cycle:
- Lean even more into the sexy, sultry vibe.
She’s said herself, she’s older and coming more into her sound, as well as her womanhood as a whole. Some of her older music is definitely more immature and I think her newer sound is much more distinct to HER. Miss possessive, Revolving door, Dear God, Purple lace bra, Sports car, and Like I do specifically have an energy that really isn’t in the current pop landscape. It’s less generic and makes her stick out!
- Work with different producers & writers.
I think she’s now at a point where she doesn’t JUST have to work with people like Ryan Tedder or Julia Michaels. She’s currently at her highest amount of traction ever, so the opportunities are definitely going to increase. People like Andrew Watt, Max Martin, etc are legends with pop music and could elevate her even further. And I’ll be honest, I like HER but I don’t particularly enjoy the people she works with. I think they’re too simplistic and don’t elevate her from being lost in the shuffle (I don’t think that but it’s a huge critique I’ve seen). I genuinely think some of the songs that SHE primarily wrote are stronger than her pop hits, which are the songs I prefer funny enough.
- Make. Longer. Songs.
Now don’t get me wrong, she’s a TikTok girl and shorter songs have been in throughout the 2020s. However, I think her best songs (specifically on this album) are filled with catchy hooks, longer verses, and bridges. I think with the level of energy her songs have, she would benefit from riding them out a little longer. She’s a full-blown pop girl now and I feel like those are the things that elevate you. However, this is not just a critique of her, I think in general that we need to go back to albums being mostly songs over 3 minutes!
- Use more of her vocal range.
I personally don’t dislike her voice, I actually think it’s quite pretty. However, I think she would REALLY benefit by having more songs that utilize her lower register, spoken word, etc. It gives her more variety as an artist and that’s always important. It’s also just fun to make the haters eat it lol
