MBA or Recreate It in the Aggregate

Careers/Post Grad

I know we've all seen the Moneyball meme where Billy Bean is 'recreating Giambi in the aggregate' and something clicked in my head when I started researching online MBAs. Hear me out on this...

Background: I have an undergraduate in Business - SCM from a state school, a decade of work experience and have enjoyed my career for the most part. I want to continue my education because it's important to me to be a continual learner. I wasn't very studious in college and was the epitome of 'C's get degrees'. I think, given the chance, I could be a better student this go around.

Actual question/thought: Get an Online MBA from a state school or try to recreate the knowledge from an MBA in the aggregate.

Most Online MBAs from random state schools with programs I think are solid are looking to cost around the 35k which is doable for me, but can you learn the same thing in an MBA through various certifications?

For example

Operations Management = Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt & SCRUM/Agile
Project Management = PMP / Prince2
HR = SHRM-CP
Change Management = Prosci Change Practitioner
Supply Chain Management = APICS CSCP or variations
Maybe get a graduate certificate from local college if you're weak in Accounting or Finance

Seems like one could get the knowledge and credentials for about 1/3 the cost of an average MBA.
