The Island sucks, but it won’t last

I understand most of us are not looking forward to the island because it’s gonna ruin community creations and is basically there to squeeze money from us through micro transactions, but I have a theory about all of this. I have a theory that in a few years the island will not even be here anymore. Now granted I could be wrong but hear me out and tell me if you agree.

1.) The severs are not meant to support something like the island and 2k are not gonna put up the money to fix this issue. 2k doesn’t care if the servers suck as long as people spend money. The WWE games are not 2k’s breadwinner, that’s NBA. The sales don’t come close to each other and the love and support the nba games get is way more than the WWE games get so I see no reason to think that’ll change.

2.) Most players do not play online anyway. The spamming, the cheese, the bugs, etc etc. most of us don’t even touch online because frankly unless it’s with a group of friends it isn’t fun. Compared to other games like UFC, NBA, NFL, and even MK1 the WWE games player base really are an offline community for the most part. Most people play UM and exhibition. This will reflect in the island after its honeymoon phase I suspect.

3.) The backlash will become too much. This one is a lot more hopeful I admit, I doubt 2k cares about what we say about the island. But I’m hoping the mode becomes so blatantly predatory that maybe money from the mode stays down and just like with 2k20 where the game was so bad WWE apparently almost gave the license to another publisher that the WWE comes in and tell them to back off with the crazy micro transactions. Like I said, unlikely but I’m hopeful.

If you are looking forward to this mode, cool I’m happy for you. But for us that know this is gonna be bad, for us who seen this with the NBA games, we have to stay optimistic and just hope for the best. I miss when these games were simply about having fun, having fun with friends, creating stuff, doing crazy shit in matches, etc. 2k has gotten comfortable with giving us bs after the W they got with 2k22. They are testing us to see how much they can squeeze from us. Let’s hope this playerbase shows them we do not want what they are selling us.
