What's necessary to bowl with used/demo balls?

I am looking to get the 2-ball "experienced" mystery box on Bowling World. Apparently they are demo balls that come with slugs and inserts, or Turbo switch grips. Can I make these balls work without having to visit a pro shop?

I'm just a casual bowler (160 average), lifetime user of house balls (14lbs XL size, 1-handed with thumb), looking to get into the reactive world. My local PSO has pretty limited hours, so having an opportunity to go is rare.

I understand that the best option is to get them plugged and redrilled, but can I bowl for the time being with the used balls as is? Do I need to do anything else to them out of the box?
