Broken tibial plateau? + torn ACL
Hi all, I (25F) tore my right ACL in January 2025 after taking a tumble while skiing. After MRIs, it was confirmed that it's completely torn. I already have surgery scheduled next month (days before my birthday lol, nice gift for myself). My MRIs also revealed that I have a "Nondepressed and nondisplaced impaction fractures of the posterior subarticular lateral and medial tibial plateau with a transverse component and metadiaphyseal lateral tibial plateau fracture.” Attaching my MRI results too.
I asked my surgeon if I had any fractures during my MRI review with him, and he told me that I have bone bruises but no broken bones. My surgeon has been pretty helpful and generally understanding during this whole process, plus I got x-rays done at the ER on the day of my injury and no broken bones were mentioned to me then, so I took my surgeon's word. But after a quick Google search, it seems like "impaction fractures" are actually broken bones? I’m not considering changing surgeons or asking for medical advice/diagnosis, but more curious if it’s worth following up about this.
Questions:
- Has anyone else also had a fractured tibial plateau + ACL, and if so, what was your experience
- Is it worth $$ to get another appointment/x-rays or should I wait until my Pre-op appointment to confirm with my surgical team? Would broken bones even change the ACL reconstruction process?
