Agnostic paganism?
Hello! I'm fairly new into the witchy world and I had a question. So, I have been identifying as a secular witch, spiritual, and an agnostic atheist. I still hold to those last two beliefs. But I was wondering if I could be that and pagan at the same time?
So, I'm spiritual, like I said, and I believe in some kind of spiritual energy that can be manipulated or used (the basis of my beliefs with witchcraft).
Religiously, I'm agnostic. More specifically, I don't know what beings exist, if any, but I firmly discount the idea of organized religion being right. The way I see it, it's impossible to 100% know whether a god is real until you die. I also don't like organized religion because it can't be proved, I don't trust the word of prophets. And I think that if a god or God's existed, it/they would understand that. It makes sense to me that a god would reach out to people individually, but collective knowledge of God or religion is fishy to me. I don't know if I'm explaining this well...
Anyway, I feel like paganism is the best way to go about deity worship. If no god exists, no harm no foul. If one god exists, then I'm sure it won't mind you being specific. And if many gods exist, then praying to a specific one will work as intended. I see pantheons as representations of possibilities, not as concrete, real beings.
So that brings me to my question. If I decided I wanted to worship some god's, on the off chance they do exist, but I don't fully believe in the existence of gods and I definitely don't believe in the very specific depictions I worship... Like, is that okay? Can I do that? Is that disrespectful?
I would still do all the research and follow the customs and be as respectful as I can, but I would just, again, see the god(s) I worship as representations of what could exist, not what does exist.
So, can I be an agnostic pagan?
