Melinda’s concept in Path of Ascension
I really enjoy the Path of Ascension series for the most part, but one aspect (heh) of it that baffles the hell out of me is the character of Melinda, specifically the fact that she somehow managed semi-instinctively create her Concept as “I am death”. Melinda is a healer, and she abhors both death in general as well as her having that as her concept. I realize that it’s strongly implied in Book 4 that her Intent will eventually become something related to life and healing, but even so, I can’t for the life of me figure out what point the author was trying to make with this decision. It seemingly flies in the face of what we know about how Domains in the series work. A person’s concept is basically a spiritual representation of what they perceive their place in the realm as being. And “I am death” simply does not match Melinda’s character even a bit.
Is this point clarified in the latter part of the series? Because as of where I am now, like I said, I just don’t get it.
