How do I find the right partner?
I’m not terribly sure where to begin but, essentially I feel like I am the problem.
I am 28 years old and over the past few years I have done everything in my power to try and find the right partner for me. I started with improving myself through working out, going to therapy, studying, getting a decent career, expanding my hobbies, learning how to dress, focusing on my health so that I can be as attractive as possible and over all attempting to be the best version of myself that I possibly could be so that when I found the right person I would be ready and be able to give them the best version of myself.
From there I started joining dating apps, looking around online, socializing, making personals and over all trying to keep my eyes open for any possible partners regardless of where they might be. That being said I still can’t find the right person.
I have talked to more people than I possibly can count and have had a few relationships here and there most of which tended to be about a year or better but, I still can’t find the right person.
I have always had the “woooo” type of personality which essentially means that I enjoy helping people and trying to work with them to make the best out of any situation. The reason I mention this is because the most frustrating challenge is what I am about to mention.
Most people seem to genuinely like me and please please don’t take this as a brag or some sort of delusion. I have genuinely checked to see if I am crazy or come off as arrogant in any way as that has also been a concern that I have had and that still doesn’t seem to be the problem either. My main problem is that I genuinely can’t find the right person.
I know that I could have a relationship in a heartbeat if I truly wanted a relationship but, that’s the thing I don’t. I want a partner, I want to find my other half, I want to find my wife and genuinely love them with all of my heart. I don’t want to be with someone just so that I am not alone or just to be in a relationship.
Out of hundreds or maybe even thousands of girls/women (whatever term is appropriate), I can count the times I have truly felt close on one hand.
I feel so incredibly exhausted, demoralized and frustrated because I feel like I will never find my partner. The closest thing I have ever had was a relationship this ended roughly a year ago now where I had been living with my partner, moved across the country, had a nice apartment, friends and overall life built up, which ended due to her being overwhelmed and stressed because she would never let me in to help.
I had offered so many different times and ways to help her through life’s difficulties regardless of what they may be and in the end she threw me away. When the relationship ended her parents, my friends, her friends and even her best friend told her she was making a horrible mistake and for a while I didn’t know what to do with this knowledge.
After going through months of therapy I learned that she was mentally ill and took her stress out on me and I in my desperation of wanting to take care of her and love her was allowing myself to be beaten down and emotionally abused so I have worked through that trauma but, it still frustrates me that at one point I felt so close.
If anyone has any advice please leave me a comment or feel free to reach out. I have done everything that I can possibly think of to improve myself mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, socially and everything in between and honestly I have never been closer to giving up.
Thank you so much to anyone who has taken the time to read this and if you are struggling as well I wish you the best of luck and please know that you are not alone.
