Opportunity to Connect with Boomer Parent – Help Me with Discussion Questions!

I (30F) somehow got my dad (75M) to agree to listen to Season 1 of Blowback with me and do a weekly “book club” discussion about each episode. He’s a Fox News-watching Trump supporter, and I’m a leftist, but we actually have a pretty solid relationship.

Recently, we had a long conversation about my skepticism toward the Trump II administration and Elon, and he genuinely asked what media sources I follow to get my perspective. He constantly falls into "Well, Biden did XYZ" mode, and I have to remind him to be skeptical of all politicians and American propaganda—not just the ones he dislikes. He knows I’m not a Democrat, so I think his knee-jerk red team vs. blue team reactions really show how deeply propaganda has shaped his thinking.

Since Season 1 focuses on the Iraq War, I’m hoping this will be a good way to challenge some of his assumptions about U.S. foreign policy and American exceptionalism. I need help coming up with good discussion questions for Episode 1 (or later episodes) that will keep him engaged but also gently push us both to think critically.

If you’ve had success in similar situations—or if you have ideas for thought-provoking but non-alienating questions—please drop them below! I feel like I have a real shot at helping him unlearn some of this shit, and I want to make the most of it.
