Flex program

I’m from Ukraine and i’m gonna apply for flex this year.I had a chance to apply last year,but I was sure that i won’t win.Now I think i have more chance to win.Therefore,I have a question to flex finalists,what helped you win? Maybe catching story?I have no idea how to make an essay interesting
