I really really want to like Elden Ring

Heya, I bought Elden Ring in the last winter steam sale and started it around a month ago after i went on break. It looks really pretty, but as it is my first soulslike ever, I lost against the golden Knight and Margit tons. I came really close to finishing of Margrit but I died so i retried it 10+ times and gave up. Haven't been playing since and now it's been a while. I picked astrologer and heard you should pit everything into vigor? So, am i supposed to run around and kill some mobs and then turn back? The game's UI overwhelms me a bit and i just arrived at the Round thing before i stopped. Besides these tips, are there any you can give me? Also, I do get frustrated sometimes if I repeatedly lose, because i "waste" my time. There are other times where I actually like losing and winning after, as it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

My friend loves this game and I even got him SotE for his birthday. He wanted me to play it as well and I also want to get it, I want to feel why it is so highly praised.
