How soon after losing your dog did you get another one?

My buddy just passed away 2 days ago. We had to put him down due to old age. He was 16 and started going downhill health wise. It was just me, my mom and him. And now our house feels incredibly empty and lonely. We miss our dog so much.. my mom randomly came across a dog for adoption in a nearby shelter and he looks incredibly similar to our boy.. we were thinking of going to meet him and possibly applying to adopt him. But is 2 days too soon? I know there’s no time limit on grief but I think we’re making a rash decision just because we miss our dog so much and we want someone to replace him..

So for those of you who have lost a dog, if you ever got another one, how long did you wait?
