Wow, so the reception I got from my last post was crazy! Anyways, thanks for all the feedback I’ve received. Now, this post will be split into two parts.

Firstly, I will discuss exactly what I was doing and why. Then, I will speak a little bit about the criticism I received—both constructive and non-constructive.

So the first ad is the ad that utilised the most feedback. I removed the expletive tagline completely & replaced it with the one shown above. The copy is completely slimmed down to the main points I want to convey. The image on the phone shows my website which contains all my content. Finally, I added a clear CTA.

The second ad brings back the expletive tagline, but changed and more clear. Instead of censoring two letters with one star, I made it censor one letter. The copy is slightly cut down compared to the previous slide.

The third ad is a dark version of the second ad. No changes except the colours.

The fourth ad has a different tagline & the phone is replaced with a computer. The image on the computer shows my website. The copy is the same as the one on slide 2 & 3. The font is different, but the text is the same, except the last line.

The fifth ad is a dark version of the fourth ad. Nothing changed except the colours.

The sixth ad is the closest to the original first and but with some major fixes:

• The copy is slimmed down and proofread.
• The 3000+ word lead magnet has been removed.
• The tagline is moved to the top.
• The tagline isn’t insulting the reader.
• The image has been changed.
• The copy has some red text (alternative for bold text).
• The ad has a QR code (although it’s meant to be a digital ad).
• The copy is larger.
• The writing on the image has been removed.
• Finally, there is a clear CTA.

The copy is still justified (from a graphic design perspective, this is preferred.)

The seventh ad is the same as the sixth ad.

Now that that’s gone through, I just want to briefly talk about the feedback from my last post.

A lot of the feedback I received was constructive—something I appreciate. The best criticisms I received mentioned the copywriting, the unclear CTA, the lead-magnet, the image, the tagline, and the writing on the original image. A lot of the things you guys mentioned were helpful and I took these to account when redesigning my ads.

Now, let’s discuss the *non-constructive* criticisms. They were few and far, but there.

Firstly, some of you guys were not putting yourselves in the shoes of my target demographic when critiquing my ad.

There was a clear theme that my ads should be one minimalist, boring, straight-to-the-point ads. That’s not what I’m going for at all.

My demographic are young people who are interested in fashion, mainly streetwear. One thing some of you guys don’t understand about these people is this; my demographic may have a short attention span, but a large segment of these people are aware of this (and hate this). These people are subject to a lot of nostalgia (which modern streetwear serves with styles like Y2K for example) which is why my ads are styled in a way that looks like late 1980s to 1990s ads/posters.

Secondly, Laive-O (the name) comes from the British slang “Live-O” which means to be present or in the flesh. No, the name is not changing, don’t ask me to do so.

Thirdly, insulting me or my ads without constructive criticism serves no purpose at all.

Fourthly, your opinion on the outfits I’ve displayed isn’t what I’m asking you to critique. Any issues with the image should discuss the image’s clarity and the subject of marketing only. Fashion is subjective. So if you don’t like the outfits displayed, then that means you aren’t my target demographic.

Fifthly, I’m not the marketer, I am a graphic designer and the owner/writer of Laive-O. Please don’t attack my newsletter/website, that’s not what I asked you to do.

Sixth, downvotes don’t mean anything. ;)

And finally (and most shockingly), I spotted one or two comments with racist undertones hidden inside it. What does the outfit have to do with gang affiliation?? No, my newsletter isn’t just going to just tell you to wear a du-rag. Where is that assumption coming from? Keep your agendas to yourself, thanks.

Asides from that, thanks for reading and please drop any further constructive criticism you have about these ads.

If you asked me, my favourite ad would be the third one. The contrast with the simplicity is something I’m proud of.

Apologies for any grammar mistakes on this post.

p.s. I know my copywriting was bad, but I am a native English speaker lol.

REDESIGN (from a marketing standpoint, what things should I change to make my poster/ad more effective)
