AITAH for standing up for my (58M) wife (58F), when a man insulted her?

About a year ago our daughter's BF got into a fight because somebody called our daughter a wh*re. My wife thanked him for standing up for our daughter.

Last week, a man our age called my wife a fucking wh*re. I confronted him, only words, nothing physical. He started yelling, i told him to back down, he threathened, i told him not to act like he's tough, he backed down. Now my wife is mad as hell at me.

In all the decades we are together i never got into a physical confrontation. She on the other hand doesn't shy away for throwing the occassional "a REAL man would..." at me. Now i act like a man and i get this.

I have 2 decades of martial arts experience so it's not as if this was a real risky situation or that i didn't had a plan. That guy very clearly didn't count on me calling his bluff.
