It is a fine line we walk between our daylight lives, the obligations of spouses or jobs, and the longings we let linger nurture cultivate in our dark corners where desire trumps reason and being opened up in new ways deeply thrills. We're not reckless in the common sense; our transgressions are studied and achievable, and therefore all the more savored. We're not new to this. At the same time, our enjoyments have been ad hoc, leaving us wanting more but never knowing when it will come.

I want to talk to you about books, music, early mornings in European cities, the smoky-sweet acridity of whiskey swirled in the mouth and the urgent kiss that comes after. We will undoubtedly be different in all the right ways, which will make conversation skip and pulse. We'll have in common a certain kind of hunger - a species of greed, really - one that hopefully will allow us to light one another up, out of sight, in the shadow of our own discretion.

Looks do matter for both of us, I'm sure. Imagination matters, too. I'm tall, slim, blue-eyed, and handsome. I shouldn't be here. You shouldn't be either. And that's how we'll know we should be somewhere else together.
