Onslaught and orbs

I'm in doubt how to use my onslaught. I can use it to collect character shards for chars that can't be farmed. I can also use it to collect legendary orbs, but not both. Which would you do?

And talking about orbs, is it worth it to invest 45 lenedary orbs to add aethana to the rogue trader group?
