2013 Acura MDX struts and shocks OEM vs After-Market
My husband used to work on my car until he was diagnosed with brain cancer last year, therefore, he can no longer work on my vehicle nor can he really guide me in the right direction as he now has cognitive deficits and is confused a lot of the time.
My ride started becoming very uncomfortable, feeling every bump in the road and very bouncy. Took my car in for a diagnostic. I have a "Comfort" electric push button in front of my console. I always had it turned on (the green light turns on to show it is on) because I did notice a smoother drive compared to when it is off. Well, that button no longer works either, which would make sense with the diagnostic results.
Repair order from a diagnostic I had done says I need Front Strut Assembly and Rear Suspension Shock Absorber.
My 83-year-old dad, who also worked on our cars as I grew up, told me to just go with less expensive after-market as OEM will cost me a lot more, and my car is 12 years old with 126k miles. He mentioned Monroe, Gabriel, and a couple of others, but he did say that with after-market parts, the "comfort" light button will no longer work. Is this true? Any of you with older models have your struts/shocks replaced and have the "comfort" button?
Is there an after-market that would include electronics to I don't know, "trick" my car, and the electric "comfort" light would start working again?
How lucky I was to have a handyman husband for all these years that took care of all these things for me. Now it's my turn to learn! My 2013 MDX has been an awesome vehicle with no major issues these last 13 years, I love it!
Thanks in advance :-)
