Hard Cases

I'm sort of new to seriously collecting. I'm very confused as to which cards belong in hard cases and which ones don't. Some cards that I think will be worth $$ aren't and ones I don't are. How do I know which ones are case hits or which ones are rare. For example Panini Illusions, are all of the illusionist cards valuable?
