How would replacing President with constitutional monarchy benefit Nepal?
I'm sure for many people this question has been a matter of confusion for them. Why bring back Monarchy to replace president? What's the benefit we get?
First we need to understand that President in Nepal is chosen and elected by these political parties. The public have no say in president. The parties have kept the power for themsleves. The presidential seat is basically a bargaining chip in the political game where the person favorable to their respective party is chosen by the party head to serve the party head, not the general public. President are party puppets, they are yes men to their party and their clan within the party.
Take example of past presidents, bidya Bhandari was yesmen to Oli, she was signing and rejecting bills based on what Oli liked and disliked. The current president Ram Chandra Poudel got the President position as a bargaining chip, as a thank you from Nepali Congress for serving the party all these years. Presidents aren't here to serve us or the country.
Here's how replacing President with Monarchy will benefit Nepal.
Apolitical Leadership: Monarchy being an apolitical power entity means it's not accountable to any whims and desires of a potlical party but provides apolitical Leadership to the citizen and is accountable to the citizens only.
Political stability: The monarch is a permanent, ceremonial figure, which ensures continuity of the state's symbolic leadership. This unchanging figurehead helps provide stability, especially during political crises or transitions. It completely prevents political gridlock presented by President and PM system.
Checks and Balances: constitutional monarchy provides check and balances of misuse or abuse of power because of distribution of power among monarchy, PM and legislatures. It also works as a psychological pressure or moral check against anyone tempted to misconduct.
Monitoring role: As we know how our institutions including supreme court, CIAA and all other agencies are infected to political influence. Constitutional Monarchy works as a monitoring institutions.
Reduction in Political Polarization: The monarch remains neutral and outside the political fray, which can help to mitigate polarization and provide a sense of unity. The monarch is a symbol of national continuity, representing all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
International Diplomacy: The Palace serves as neutral figures in international diplomacy, representing their countries without the burden of partisanship. This can help maintain long-term, stable diplomatic relationships with other nations. Unlike politicians playing anti china, anti India or anti america game to serve their local political needs and damaging our international reputations and diplomacy.
National security: The palace isn't slave to votes and potlical games. A king is king because he has a kingdom, with the kingdom he is no one. So it's in their utmost objective to maintain the national security and integrity of the nation. These politicians will sell citizens, citizenship cards, fuel the public with ethnic and religious hatred for few extra votes in the election.
National untiy: for a country like Nepal with wide range of religious, ethnic, cultural and lingusitic diversity, it's import to have a neutral non political figurehead to unify them and promote national unity. Crisis management and advisory roles: In times of national emergencies like natural disasters or socio-poltical tensions, the monarch can offer stability and neutral leadership playing a key role in rallying the country together. And play a role as advisory or mediator to deescalate the situation.
Not to mention religious and cultural significance, international soft power monarchy holds, boost in public trust in the government, sense of security and sustainability, international prestige and many other direct and indirect benefits.
In a country like Nepal where corruption and political influence in rampant, institutions are weak, an independent power entity like constitutional monarchy is a must to keep check and balance of the system, maintain national unity and security.
