Cancelled Order - have to wait a month for a refund

I really do not like complaining about Amazon since I have generally had great experiences, but this particular policy is just wrong and needs to be changed. Here is the situation:

I ordered a mouse and some keyboard switches on March 3, 2025. Total was under $100 and I used $40 in gift cards. They were supposed to be delivered next day as I am a Prime member. The package never showed up and the tracking information said it was delayed and offered an ability to reschedule delivery. I did that and scheduled delivery for the next day, March 5. That day came and went, and the package never showed up and the tracking information did not change. I reached out to chat support and they could not tell me anything except to wait.

Finally, on March 6, "Cancel" button became available on the tracking page. I did that, and the Order status changed to "cancelled". I waited a couple of days and noticed that no refund was issued. I contacted customer support again today and they told me that I would have to wait until the package reached the Returns centre and then until April 8 to get my refund. I tried explaining to them that I never received the package at all, and that this should not be considered a return. It is totally between Amazon and their carrier that they seem to have lost the package. I kept asking them whether they even knew where the package was and they had no idea. They kept arguing that I "refused" delivery which is absolutely not true.

I explained to them that this shook my belief in Amazon's ability to deliver things, track packages and most importantly, have their customer's back. They said too bad, that is the policy.

I really do not understand what is going on with Amazon because I have never experienced anything like this. I guess my only option is to wait until April 6 and then potentially do a chargeback on the $60, but I still may lose the $40 in Amazon gift cards. Is there anyone at Amazon higher up that I could write to about this? It is not a lot of money - it is more the principle of it all.
