AITA for going to my granny's funeral when my sister couldn't
My granny recently passed away. She lives far away from us and we needed to go to the funeral.
My sister had a better relationship with my granny then I did. I knew my mom would not be going to the funeral to support my dad so I really wanted to be there for my dad at the funeral. Unfortunately my sister did not have the funds to travel so far with her kids to the funeral. I offered to drive for 8 hours so that my sister can join us at the funeral and not spend all the money on flying. She said she does not want to drive so far as her kids or two small to you travel and 8 hours. I then decided to rather fly and not make the long drive.
An hour later my sister messaged me and told me that I am very selfish and that I'm rude to go to the funeral when she cannot go. She said that I was making plans behind her back to put my grandma in the ground and carry the coffin. My sister implied that I should not be allowed to have the honour of lowering the coffin into the grave.
I don't think am in the wrong even though she had a better relationship with my granny but she was also my granny. I offered to drive the way up and pay for the petrol that it would take to get us there because I knew she did not have the funds. But just because she does not have the funds to go does not make ne selfish.
