How do those of you with GI issues tell if it's a POTS flare or lingering stomach bug?
Not looking for medical advice, just want to hear the thoughts of others because I'm at my wits end. I'll keep it short.
Like many with POTS, I have stomach issues, though not constant—usually it'll be triggered by an illness like covid or stomach virus.
A couple of months ago, I had what I was fairly certain was a stomach virus. I work with young kids, and it was taking everybody down. No vomiting, but nausea for a few days followed by diarrhea that came and went for a few weeks. Finally started to feel better, had a couple of good weeks, then got hit with the nausea and diarrhea again, plus gas. Assumed stomach bug again since a new round was making it's way through my work. Fast forward a few weeks, get back to feeling mostly better and now it's happening again.
It's weird because my POTS gi flares are typically very consistent, not up and down with varying days and weeks of feeling better. And to make it more confusing, the stomach virus is STILL working it's way through my work, so there's part of me that wonders if I've somehow managed to catch 3 different strains all in the span of a few months.
Does anyone have experience with recurring or relapsing stomach bugs/potentially damaged gut bacteria? How do you personally separate out what's POTS and what's an issue caused by virus?
