Does the IITian tag really matter that much, regardless of the degree and course ?

I am pursuing BTech CS from a tier 2 college and the IITM BS programme. My btech gpa is 7/10 but bs one is 8.5/10. So would the IITian tag and a decent gpa make up for my btech gpa and help getting a better uni for MSCS or do US unis consider it a scam irrelevant degree too ?

Any insights would be much appreciated!!
